Ensure high efficiency and greater safety with Himel Commercial and Industrial Solutions

Electrical systems are one of the most critical aspects of a building. They provide power to everything inside the structure, including lighting, heating, cooling, security cameras, elevators, fire alarms, and many others. These systems require proper care to ensure that they continue to function properly. If something goes wrong with these systems, the result could be catastrophic. You might even experience a loss of productivity due to downtime.

The complexity of electrical systems increases as the size of the building increases, which is why installing electrical safety devices is essential. These devices ensure that the electrical systems are monitored and operating safely and efficiently.

Himel offers a comprehensive line of commercial and industrial solutions required to meet today’s strict building codes and safety standards. They include motor circuit breakers, contactors & thermal overload relays, soft starters, and variable speed drives. Let’s dive in and learn more about the aforementioned electrical devices.

Motor Circuit Breaker

This device integrates the functions of low-voltage circuit breakers and thermal overload relays. A motor circuit breaker can protect the motor branch circuits from phase-loss, short-circuit and overload. It relies on the overload level to disconnect the motor from the power supply when there is a short circuit.

When choosing a motor circuit breaker, you should note some crucial characteristics of your motor. One is if it has a particular overload capacity, and the other is the starting current. Make a note if the starting current is several times the rated current to prevent tripping every time the motor starts.

Contactors & Thermal Overload Relays

Your motor can sometimes draw more current than it can handle, leading to temperature build-up and overheating, causing damage to the motor windings and coils.

A thermal overload relay provides safety in a manual control circuit. The thermal relay switches off the heating circuit when the temperature increases above a set value. It's important to note that the thermal relay does not shut off the power.

Instead, it opens in the event of a high current and allows the motor to run. It prevents electricity from passing through a part of the circuit, which prevents damage to any other components in the system.

Contactors are a particular type of relay that switches an electrical circuit on or off. They can withstand high currents compared to relays, which primarily work in low voltage situations. Commercial electrical safety devices like contactors and relays will enhance your equipment's electric and mechanical life.

Soft Starter

Soft starters come in handy in applications with high inertia loads that require a large inrush of current. One example is during the start-up phase. They control the voltage applied to the motor using a triac.

A soft starter allows current flow when it receives an internal pulse, which flows to the motor. The current application to the motor is slow and determined by the ramp time. This allows your motor to start softly, decreasing the inrush current. Thus, the workflow and operations are softer as your equipment as the motor adjusts to the machine’s load behavior sufficiently.

Variable Speed Drives

A variable speed drive regulates the speed generated by an electric motor. This device has a series of printed circuit boards that manage the drive’s power stage. They receive electrical current and then feed it to the motor. A variable speed drive's size varies depending on your building’s power requirements.

To protect components of the variable speed drive, the construction of the casing changes. It is dependent on the environment where you install the drive.

At Himel, we offer a complete portfolio of commercial electrical safety devices and industrial electrical safety designed to withstand the rigours and safety requirements of various types of environments.
